NipMist™ is an emulsion of catnip oil and water. Catnip (Nepeta cataria) is a plant that is a member of the mint family of plants, a cousin of basil, oregano, and spearmint. The leaves, stems, and seedpods of the plant are covered with tiny bulbs (trichomes) that contain the essential oil. In order to obtain the highest quality catnip oil, the oil found in NipMist™, we break the trichomes open, collect the oil, and steam distill it to obtain a product high in nepetalactone, the primary active ingredient.

NipMist™ is perfect for play time and makes an ideal cat training tool. Keep roaming cats near home or away from certain areas in the home by spraying areas you want them to return to, e.g. cat bed or scratch post.

  • all natural
  • concentrated blend of water and catnip oil
  • lasts much longer than dry catnip
  • perfect for playtime and makes an ideal training tool

In order for a cat to display the traditional catnip response sequence of sniffing, licking, chewing, head shaking, head and body rubbing, and playing, the cat must be genetically predisposed to respond to the nepetalactone in NipMist™. Catnip does not affect most cats until they reach the age of three months or so. After that, cats that have inherited a sensitivity to catnip will respond with classic behavior. A kitten with two sensitive parents will have a three-out-of-four chance of being sensitive to catnip. A kitten with one sensitive parent will have only a one-out-of-two chance of being sensitive.

Although catnip originated in Europe and Asia, the finest plants are now cultivated in the Pacific Northwest of the United States, and in Western Canada. This is the region of origin for the catnip essential oil in NipMist™.
